PHBGTU Key Staff Funding
Living Waters Phuket Foundation enabled children to return to school, at the Phuket Has Been Good To Us Kamala campus. The children returned to school on May 23rd 2022, after a grant was awarded to help fund English teaching for around 220 students for the school year 2022 to 2023.
Phuket Has Been Good ToUs (PHBGTU) is a Thai registered charity that provides English education for free to underprivileged students. Their qualified, highly experienced teachers provide English, Mathematics and Science in English classes on their English Integrated Studies (EIS) program.
Teaching Primary Year 1 – 6 students, (aged 6 to 13), the national English curriculum, there are 250 children living full time at the Kamala School during term. These children live in the dormitories for various reasons: some are orphans; some unable to live with family and get to school safely each day and others do not have a place to call home. To give these children nurturing support, the teachers and volunteers run Coconut Club, an after-school program the children can join to enjoy arts & crafts, play games and sports, learn to cook and practice their English in a fun, safe environment.
With this funding, it is hoped that the primary level students will successfully complete their English curriculum and pass their exams at the end of the school year March 2023. As the children enjoy learning English, it will enable them to go further with their education, achieve higher grade results and have better job prospects. With the significant amount of quality exposure to spoken English, students will be able to communicate effectively in this second language, improving their confidence and ability to continue learning the language once they leave the programme.
